The Flora Incognita app offers a quick solution to the question: "What's blooming?" Capture a photo of a plant, identify its name, and access detailed information through a comprehensive fact sheet. The app utilizes highly accurate algorithms based on artificial intelligence to identify wild plants, even when they are not yet blooming.

Additionally, the Flora Incognita app provides an observation list where you can easily keep track of all your collected plant finds. Explore maps to visualize their locations and witness the growth of your knowledge about wild plants.

However, Flora Incognita goes beyond a mere identification tool. As a part of a scientific research project dedicated to nature conservation, the app is completely free of charge and advertising. Your observations contribute to answering important research questions concerning invasive species' distribution and the impact of climate change on biotopes.

Who Developed Flora Incognita?

The Flora Incognita app was developed by scientists from the Technical University of Ilmenau and the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry Jena. Its development received support from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, and Nuclear Safety), the Thuringian Ministry for the Environment, Energy, and Nature Conservation, and the Foundation for Nature Conservation Thuringia. This project was honored as an official project of the "UN Decade of Biodiversity" and awarded the Thuringian Research Award in 2020.
